Giggles 4 Girls

The best way to teach children anything is by doing it in front of them ourselves. I wanted to teach my daughter gratitude. The importance of being grateful and being mindful of how fortunate she is. Regardless of how well… or not well we are doing, it is imperative that we focus on what we do have, not on what we don’t. Pay attention to our great health, a house to live in, clothes, toys, the ability to walk, talk, run and play.. Even to breathe. None of these things should be taken for granted.

I started when my daughter was very young. First by saying thank you to her for every little thing she did. I even thanked her for choosing me to be her mum, showing how grateful I was to have her. Soon I noticed that she would always say thank you to me, I also realised that from a very young age she was open to sharing. As she got older I taught her to say thank you for her food and water before eating or drinking as a blessing. At dinner time we all took turns around the table to say three things we were grateful for that day. Once she could write I would get her to journal three things that she was grateful for every single day. The benefits she receives from this extremely simple and deeply enriching habit has impacted her life in a multitude of positive ways, most notably an inner peace and happiness that radiates from her as she chooses to focus on the brighter side of life.
